  • 1 cup pizza sauce Use less for a cleaner center
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese Freshly shredded for better melt
  • ½ cup sliced pepperoni For visible petals
  • Fresh basil leaves Fresh basil leaves for garnish For color and flavor contrast
  • Olive oil Olive oil for brushing Can substitute with butter
  • to taste Salt and pepper

Preparation

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface until it reaches about ¼ inch thickness.
  • Cut the dough into strips, approximately 2 inches wide.
  • Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce over each strip, leaving edges clear.
  • Sprinkle mozzarella cheese evenly on top.
  • Lay pepperoni slices along one edge of the strips, overlapping slightly.
  • Roll up each strip tightly to form rose shapes.
  • Place the rolled roses on the baking sheet and brush lightly with olive oil.
  • Sprinkle with a little salt and pepper for depth.

Baking

  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown, watching for bubbling cheese and browned pepperoni edges.
  • Once out of the oven, let the roses rest for 5 minutes before garnishing with fresh basil leaves.

Notes

You can assemble the roses ahead of time and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking. For leftovers, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. To reheat, use an oven at 350°F for 6-8 minutes.
