  • 4 slices Bread (sourdough or whole wheat) Use your favorite type of bread.
  • 4 slices Cheddar cheese Can use sharp or mild according to preference.
  • 6 leaves Fresh basil leaves Essential for flavor; do not skip.
  • 1 medium Tomato slices Choose ripe, juicy tomatoes.
  • 2 tbsp Butter For grilling.
  • 1 pinch Salt To taste.

Preparation

  • Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
  • Butter one side of each slice of bread.

Cooking

  • Place one slice of bread, butter side down, in the skillet.
  • Layer cheddar cheese, basil leaves, and tomato slices on top.
  • Place the second slice of bread on top, butter side up.
  • Grill until the bread is golden brown and the cheese melts, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  • Remove from skillet, cut in half, and serve.

Notes

Add jalapeños for spice, serve with tomato soup or a salad for a complete meal. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days or freeze for up to a month.
