Ingredients
  

For the cookies

  • 3/4 cup butter Use real butter for best flavor.
  • 1/2 cup lightly packed brown sugar Adds a gentle caramel note.
  • 1 large egg Brings moisture and structure.
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract Use pure vanilla for best aroma.
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour All-purpose flour works best.
  • 1/4 tsp salt Enhances flavor.

For the filling

  • 1/4 cup jam of choice Choose high-quality jam, raspberry or strawberry are classics.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Cream together the butter and brown sugar on high until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract, mix until fully incorporated.
  • Add the flour and salt, blend until a soft dough forms.
  • Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet, about 1½ inches apart.
  • Press your thumb or the back of a teaspoon into the center of each ball to form a heart-shaped indent.

Baking

  • Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  • Once cooled, spoon a small dollop of jam into each heart-shaped center.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature butter and ensure not to overwork the dough. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
