Ingredients

  • ¾ cup salted butter, softened to room temperature
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips semi-sweet, milk, or dark

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  • In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar for about 3–4 minutes until light and fluffy.
  • Scrape down the bowl, then add the egg and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
  • Add flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix on low speed until a soft dough forms.
  • Fold in chocolate chips, reserving a few for topping if desired.
  • Scoop dough into 1 ½ tablespoon-sized balls and place 2 inches apart on the baking sheets.
  • Bake for 8–10 minutes, until edges are golden but centers appear slightly underbaked.
  • Let cookies cool on the sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For thicker cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking. Don’t overmix once the flour is added. Experiment with chocolate types or mix-ins like walnuts or oats. Store cookies in an airtight container or freeze for longer storage.
