Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 12 oz fresh cranberries Choose fresh cranberries for best result.
  • 1 cup sugar (split) Use pure cane sugar for the best flavor.
  • 1/4 cup water

For Coating

  • 1/2 cup sugar For coating the cranberries after drying.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a medium saucepan, heat 2/3 cup of sugar with 1/4 cup of water. Stir often until the sugar thickens to a syrupy consistency, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Once heated, remove from the stove and let the mixture cool for about 5 minutes. The syrup should be warm but not boiling.
  • Stir the fresh cranberries into the warm sugar mixture. Make sure each cranberry gets well-coated and glistens with the sugary syrup.
  • After the cranberries are coated, spread them out on a baking sheet or a cooling rack. Let them dry for about an hour. During this time, they will form a beautiful glossy sheen.
  • Prepare the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar in a separate bowl. Once the cranberries have dried for an hour, gently toss them in the bowl in small batches. Coat them with sugar until they look like little candy jewels.
  • Finally, place the sugared cranberries in an airtight container for storage. They are best enjoyed fresh but can last a few days beautifully.

Notes

Store your sugared cranberries in an airtight container at room temperature for the best texture; they can be refrigerated or frozen for longer storage.
