Ingredients
  

For the Cake

  • 2.5 cups 2 ½ cups (320g) all-purpose flour
  • 2.5 teaspoons 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup 1 cup (227g) unsalted butter, softened Use real butter for best results.
  • 1.75 cups 1 ¾ cups (350g) granulated sugar
  • 3 large 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk, room temperature Can substitute with milk + 1 tbsp lemon juice.

For the Frosting

  • 1 cup 1 cup (227g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups 4 cups (480g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1.5 teaspoons 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2-3 tablespoons 2-3 tablespoons heavy cream Adjust for desired consistency.
  • 1 pinch Pinch of salt

For the Horns

  • 8 oz 8 oz (225g) fondant, white or ivory
  • 1 set Edible gold paint or gold luster dust mixed with clear alcohol (like vodka) For painting the horns.
  • 1 piece Food-safe paintbrush For applying the gold paint.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 8-inch cake pans and line the bottoms with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Making the Cake

  • Using an electric mixer, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar on medium-high speed until fluffy and pale, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Reduce mixer speed and add the dry ingredients in three parts, alternating with the buttermilk in two parts. Mix just until combined.
  • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and smooth the tops. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Let the cakes rest in pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to cooling racks to cool completely.

Making the Frosting

  • Beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add in the sifted powdered sugar on low speed.
  • Add the vanilla extract, salt, and heavy cream until fluffy.

Creating Gold Horns

  • Roll fondant into long cone shapes, tapering one end to a point to mimic Taurus horns.
  • Let the horns dry for 1-2 hours to firm up, then paint with gold using a food-safe brush.

Assembly

  • Place one cake layer on a serving plate, spread frosting evenly on top, then place the second layer on top.
  • Cover the entire cake with a thin crumb coat and chill for 15 minutes.
  • Finish with a smooth final coat of frosting and position the gold horns on top.

Notes

For extra richness, serve with coffee or ice cream. Garnish with edible gold glitter or fresh flowers.
