Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup salted butter softened (or unsalted with a pinch of salt)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips milk, dark, or a mix

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2 minutes).
  • Add egg and vanilla extract; mix until well combined.
  • Stir in flour, baking soda, and salt until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Fold in chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  • Drop 1 1/2 tablespoon portions of dough onto prepared baking sheet, 2 inches apart.
  • Bake 8–10 minutes, until edges are golden and centers look slightly soft.
  • Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

For extra depth, add a pinch of sea salt on top before baking. Try mixing chocolate chip varieties or adding nuts for a twist.
