Ingredients

Cookie Ingredients

  • 1 cup Unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 large Large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract Use real vanilla if possible
  • 2.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder Do not use baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt

Optional Flavorings

  • 1 teaspoon Almond extract For a subtle nutty flavor

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until fluffy and pale.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla until well combined.
  • Add the flour, baking powder, and salt to the mixture, and mix until a dough forms.

Baking

  • Divide the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
  • Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes and place them on a lined baking sheet.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are just starting to color.
  • Allow cookies to cool before decorating or serving.

Notes

For easier cleanup, line baking sheets with parchment paper. If the dough is too sticky, a brief 15-minute chill could help. Store cookies in an airtight container for up to 5 days or freeze for longer storage.
