Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened Fresh butter recommended
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Mix-ins

  • 2 cups chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional) Can be replaced with pretzels for a twist

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the brown sugar, granulated sugar, and butter until smooth.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  • In another bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add to the creamed mixture, mixing until just combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts if using.
  • Drop by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased baking sheets.

Baking

  • Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until edges are lightly browned.

Storage

  • For freezing, place dough balls on parchment-lined baking sheets and freeze until solid, then bag by the dozen.
  • Store cooled cookies in an airtight container for up to a week or freeze for up to three months.

Notes

If you prefer chewier cookies, reduce the baking time by a minute or two. Measure ingredients ahead of time for a smoother mixing process.
