Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Choose high-quality cocoa for the best flavor.
  • 2 cups powdered sugar Use a fine-mesh sieve to prevent graininess.
  • 2 cups powdered milk Gives the mix a creamy base.
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Adds pockets of melting chocolate.
  • 1/2 cup vanilla sugar (optional) Use real vanilla for richer flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine cocoa powder, powdered sugar, powdered milk, chocolate chips, vanilla sugar, and salt. Mix well.
  • Stir with a whisk until the mixture is even and no dry streaks remain. Break up any small lumps of cocoa with the back of a spoon.
  • Store the hot chocolate mix in an airtight container.
  • Label the jar with the date and a use-by suggestion of about six months for best flavor.

Making Hot Chocolate

  • To make hot chocolate, mix 1/4 cup of the hot chocolate mix with 1 cup of hot water or milk. Stir until well combined and enjoy!
  • For a richer cup, use steamed milk or a mix of half milk and half cream.
  • Top with whipped cream, marshmallows, or a sprinkle of cocoa.

Notes

Store in an airtight jar for up to six months. For a richer taste, consider substituting half the powdered milk with powdered cream.
