Ingredients
  

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 pound Ground beef Lean for healthier option
  • 1 cup Mixed vegetables Frozen peas and carrots work well

Potatoes

  • 4 large Potatoes Yukon Gold recommended for creaminess
  • 4 tablespoons Butter For mashed potatoes

Flavorings

  • 0.5 cup Beef broth For rich flavor
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce Adds depth
  • to taste Salt & pepper Essential seasoning

Optional Toppings

  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese For topping, optional

Preparation

  • Boil the potatoes with some salt until soft. Mash them up with butter and a splash of milk until they are thick, not soupy.

Cooking the Filling

  • In a skillet, brown the ground beef and add onion and garlic, cooking until soft.
  • Drain the grease to prevent sogginess.
  • Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, thyme, and mixed vegetables.
  • Pour in beef broth and let simmer until slightly thickened.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning, adding more salt if needed.

Assembling and Baking

  • Spoon the beef mixture into a baking dish and top with the mashed potatoes.
  • If desired, sprinkle cheddar cheese on top.
  • Bake at 400°F for about 25 minutes until the top is golden and crispy.
  • Let cool briefly before serving to avoid burning your mouth.

Notes

If you have leftovers, this dish gets even tastier the next day. Cover and store in the fridge for up to 3-4 days or freeze for longer storage. For making ahead, assemble and bake when ready. Perfect for busy weeknights!
