Easy Grilled Asian Chicken Skewers

Ingredients
  

For the chicken skewers

  • 1 pound boneless (skinless) chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • Bamboo skewers (soaked in water for 30 minutes)

For the honey garlic sauce

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water 60 ml

Preparation

  • Preheat your grill to medium-high heat, or if using an oven, preheat it to 400°F (200°C).
  • Thread the chicken cubes onto the soaked bamboo skewers, leaving a small space between each cube for even cooking.

Making the Honey Garlic Sauce

  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
  • Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  • Whisk in the honey, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, and brown sugar, bringing the mixture to a simmer.
  • Dissolve the cornstarch in 60 ml of water and stir into the sauce. Continue cooking until thickened, about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat.

Cooking

  • Grill the chicken skewers for about 5-7 minutes on each side, basting with the honey garlic sauce until fully cooked and slightly charred.

Notes

These skewers are great served on their own or with steamed vegetables or rice. Consider garnishing with green onions or sesame seeds.
