  • 1 box vanilla cake mix You can use yellow cake mix for a richer base.
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup water As per cake mix instructions.
  • 1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk This adds moisture and sweetness.
  • 1 small box Jell-O (any flavor) Flavor can be swapped based on preference.
  • 1 cup whipped topping Store-bought to save time.
  • as desired Sprinkles, candies, or frosting for decoration Use for festive topping.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven according to the cake mix instructions and prepare a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, mix the cake mix, eggs, and water until well combined. Pour into the prepared pan and bake as directed.
  • Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool for about 15 minutes.
  • Using the back of a wooden spoon, poke holes all over the top of the cake.

Filling & Chilling

  • In a separate bowl, mix the sweetened condensed milk and Jell-O powder until combined. Pour this mixture over the cake, ensuring it gets into the holes.
  • Refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours to set.

Topping & Serving

  • Before serving, spread a layer of whipped topping on top and decorate with sprinkles, candies, or frosting as desired.
  • Slice with a clean, sharp knife, wiping between cuts for neat pieces. Serve chilled or slightly cool.

Notes

This cake can be made ahead; it tastes even better the next day. Store in the refrigerator, covered, for 3 to 4 days. Freezing is possible but remove toppings first. Refresh soggy leftovers with fresh whipped cream or a crisp element.
