Dry Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened not melted
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 large egg room temperature recommended
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp milk

Optional Add-ins

  • 1 dash almond extract optional for extra flavor

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until fluffy.
  • Crack in the egg, add the vanilla extract and milk, and stir until smooth.
  • Add the dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt) and mix until just combined.
  • Scoop tablespoon-sized amounts of dough and drop them onto the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, until the edges are barely golden and the tops are set.
  • Let the cookies cool on the tray for 2 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack.

Notes

For best results, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking to help maintain their shape. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days. Freeze dough balls for longer storage.
