Ingredients

Churro Dough

  • 1 cup water Used as the base for the churro dough.
  • 2.5 tablespoons white sugar Used in the dough for sweetness and to enhance flavor.
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt Balances the sweetness.
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil Adds richness to the dough.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Forms the base of the churro dough.

Frying

  • 2 quarts oil (like canola or vegetable oil) For deep frying the churros.
  • 0.5 cup white sugar For coating the churros after frying.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon For the sweet cinnamon sugar coating.

Chocolate Dipping Sauce

  • 1 cup chocolate chips For melting into a dipping sauce.
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream To thin the melted chocolate and create a smooth sauce.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the water, 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Bring this mixture to a gentle boil, and then remove it from the heat.
  • Add the flour to the mixture, stirring until it forms a ball. The dough should hold together nicely.

Frying Churros

  • Heat the oil in a deep-fryer or deep skillet to 375°F (190°C).
  • Using a pastry bag fitted with a large star tip, pipe strips of dough into the hot oil. Fry churros in small batches until golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per batch.
  • Drain the fried churros on paper towels.

Coating

  • In a shallow dish, combine 1/2 cup of sugar and ground cinnamon. Roll the drained churros in this mixture while they are still warm.

Making Chocolate Sauce

  • Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave with heavy cream, stirring until thin and glossy.
  • Serve churros with the chocolate sauce for dipping.

Notes

Store leftover churros in an airtight container for up to two days. Reheat in a hot oven to regain crispiness. For freezing, arrange cooled churros in a single layer on a baking sheet until solid, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag.
