  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Gruyère) You can experiment with different cheese varieties.
  • 2 tablespoons butter For greasing the baking dish.
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced Adds flavor and sweetness to the dish.

  • optional garlic powder, thyme Additional seasonings you can include.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Grease a baking dish with butter.
  • In a bowl, combine cream, salt, pepper, and optional seasonings.

Layering

  • Layer half of the potatoes in the dish, followed by half of the onion and half of the cheese.
  • Pour half of the cream mixture over the layers.
  • Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, onion, cheese, and cream.

Baking

  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the top is golden and crispy.
  • Let it sit for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Great as leftovers. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Reheat in oven, not microwave, to maintain texture.
