Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  • Beat in the vanilla and eggs until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, mixing until just combined.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips.
  • Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets.
  • Bake for 9–11 minutes, or until the edges are golden.
  • Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For chewier cookies, take them out when they look slightly underbaked — they’ll finish cooking on the sheet. Use room-temperature butter for the best texture. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or freeze dough for future baking. A sprinkle of sea salt on top before baking adds a lovely balance of sweet and salty.
