  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure it's at room temperature for easy mixing.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed Use light or dark brown sugar.
  • 2 large eggs Bring to room temperature.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Pure vanilla extract is recommended.
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Sifted before measuring.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Adjust to taste.
  • 1 cup dried cranberries
  • Zest of 1 orange Use a microplane for fine zest.
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice Freshly squeezed is best.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed for about 2-3 minutes until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, mixing until combined, about 1-2 more minutes.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture and mix on low speed until just combined.
  • Fold in the dried cranberries, orange zest, and fresh orange juice with a spatula.
  • Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto baking sheets lined with parchment paper, leaving space between each cookie.

Baking

  • Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes until they are golden brown.
  • Remove them from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes.
  • Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, store cookies in an airtight container for up to one week. Freeze for up to three months, and reheat in a preheated oven at 350°F for 5–7 minutes.
