  • 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ cup cold butter cut into pieces
  • 6 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 bag semi-sweet chocolate chips 10–11 oz; use half a bag for fewer chips
  • ¼ cup walnut pieces optional

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 475°F (246°C).
  • Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, salt, and baking soda.
  • Cut the cold butter into small pieces.
  • In a large bowl, mix butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, egg, and vanilla extract until creamy and smooth.
  • Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  • Fold in chocolate chips and walnut pieces, if using.
  • Scoop dough by tablespoons onto prepared baking sheets, spacing apart.
  • Bake for 6–7 minutes or until tops are golden brown.
  • Let cookies cool on baking sheets before transferring. Enjoy warm for best texture.

Notes

Keep butter cold to achieve crisp edges and gooey centers. Don’t overmix to maintain tenderness. Swap chocolate chip varieties or mix in dried fruit for a fun twist. Store in an airtight container at room temperature or freeze for future indulgence.
