Ingredients
  

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup unsalted butter room temperature
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups chocolate chips

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Whisk flour and baking soda in a small bowl; set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and salt until smooth.
  • Beat in vanilla and eggs until combined.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  • Stir in chocolate chips.
  • Drop dough by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.
  • Bake 9–11 minutes, until edges are golden but centers look soft.
  • Cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks.

Notes

For extra chewiness, don’t overbake. Chill dough before baking if too sticky, or add nuts and oats for variation.
