  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar Regular white sugar is used.
  • 2 large eggs Room temperature preferred.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Real is better, but fake will work.
  • 2.75 cups all-purpose flour Standard flour for best results.
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda Helps the cookies rise.
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder Adds a bit of fluffiness.
  • 0.75 teaspoon salt Balances the sweetness.

Instructions

Browning the Butter

  • In a medium pan, melt the butter over medium heat, stirring frequently until it starts bubbling and turns a shade darker with a nutty aroma.
  • Pour the browned butter into a bowl and let it cool slightly.

Mixing the Dough

  • Mix the brown butter and sugar in a bowl until sandy.
  • Add in eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in vanilla.
  • In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, being careful not to over-mix.

Baking the Cookies

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Scoop equal amounts of dough onto a lined baking sheet.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are lightly golden, but the center remains pale.
  • Let cool and enjoy with a glass of milk!

Notes

Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes to help cookies retain their shape during baking. Store cookies in an airtight container for freshness.
