Ingredients
  

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment or silicone mats.
  • Whisk flour, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl.
  • Cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes).
  • Beat in vanilla extract and eggs, one at a time, mixing well.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture; mix until just combined.
  • Fold in chocolate chips and nuts if using.
  • Scoop rounded balls of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing 2 inches apart.
  • Bake 9–11 minutes, until edges are golden and centers remain soft.
  • Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks.

Notes

For chewier cookies, slightly underbake them and let them finish setting on the baking sheet. Try fun variations with white chocolate, cinnamon, or dried fruits.
