  • 3 ripe avocados Must be slightly yielding when pressed.
  • 1 lime, juiced For freshness and flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt Adjust to taste.
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 Roma tomatoes, diced
  • 1 jalapeño, seeded and minced (optional) For heat if desired.
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (optional) Adds depth of flavor.

Preparation

  • Cut the avocados in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a mixing bowl.
  • Mash the avocados with a fork until smooth, but still slightly chunky.
  • Add lime juice and kosher salt, and mix well.
  • Fold in chopped cilantro, diced onion, diced tomatoes, and jalapeño if using.
  • Adjust seasoning with more salt or lime juice to taste.
  • Serve immediately with tortilla chips or as a topping for your favorite Mexican dishes.

Notes

To store guacamole, place it in an airtight container and press plastic wrap directly onto the surface to minimize browning. Adding more lime juice can help reduce browning.
