Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan with a bit of oil or butter.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the unsweetened applesauce, brown sugar, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until blended.
  • In another bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it out evenly. Bake for 30-35 minutes.
  • Check if it's done by inserting a toothpick into the center. If it comes out clean, the cake is ready!
  • Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.

Frosting

  • In a medium bowl, beat together the cream cheese, butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Gradually add the powdered sugar and ground cinnamon, continuing to beat until fluffy.

Assembly

  • Once the cake is completely cool, spread the frosting evenly over the top.
