Ingredients
  

For the Apple Filling

  • 1 medium apple (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and diced small
  • 1 tbsp butter for cooking the apples
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

For the Waffle Donuts

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tbsp milk adjust for desired thickness
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions
 

Prepare the Apples

  • In a small skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter.
  • Add the diced apple, brown sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon.
  • Cook for 5–7 minutes until the apples are tender and caramelized.
  • Set the apple mixture aside to cool slightly.

Mix the Dry Ingredients

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  • Ensure there are no lumps for a smooth batter.

Combine Wet Ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla.
  • Whisk until well combined.

Combine Dry and Wet Mixtures

  • Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients.
  • Stir gently until just combined.
  • Fold in the cooled apple mixture carefully, being cautious not to overmix.

Cook the Waffle Donuts

  • Preheat your waffle iron and lightly grease it.
  • Spoon the batter into the center of each mold.
  • Close the waffle iron and cook for 3–4 minutes or until golden brown and fully cooked.
  • Remove the waffle donuts and cool them on a wire rack.

Make the Glaze

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Adjust the thickness by adding more milk or sugar if needed.

Glaze the Donuts

  • Once the waffle donuts are warm (not hot), dip the tops into the glaze or drizzle it over using a spoon.
  • Let the glaze set before serving.

Notes

Serve with vanilla ice cream, fresh berries, caramel sauce, or whipped cream for a delightful treat. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator, or freeze for up to 2 months.
